The biggest release in years, SimpleIndex 12 brings AI document analysis through three cloud providers, a single Professional license now runs all five companion applications, the products install and activate without administrator rights.

Some other major new features are:
- One license for the five companion applications. An activated Professional workstation license is a valid runtime license for SimpleView, SimpleExport, SimpleCoversheet, SimpleSend and the Workflow Manager. No second serial number, no separate activation. It does not cover concurrent licensing, which can only be issued by the license server, and it does not include the Server Processing add-on that unattended processing requires.
- Cloud OCR through AWS, Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence or Google Document AI, chosen on one screen with a credentials test button
- Ask a document a question and get the answer into a named index field, with no zone to draw
- Install and activate without administrator rights, with no components to register
- TA multi-step process is now built and run in the Workflow Manager. SimpleIndex jobs are added to a workflow and run in order, start to finish, without anyone driving them. Steps can also run the other Simple Software applications, SimpleCoversheet, SimpleExport and the accounting procedures, as well as processes outside the Simple Software products, now including QuickBooks Online
- Presets for OnBase, Laserfiche, DocuWare and Concordance, so one choice configures everything the receiving system needs
- Zone fields read text that is already on the page instead of recognizing the same area twice
- A smaller installer, with recognition languages downloaded the moment you select them

Renew Your Maintenance
To upgrade to version 12 you must have current Annual Maintenance.
AI That Runs Where You Want It
Version 12 does not make you choose between AI accuracy and keeping your documents in the building. You can point SimpleIndex at AWS, Azure or Google and pay that provider directly, per page, with no markup from us. You can point it at a hosted language model. Or you can point it at a model server you run yourself, which keeps every page inside your network.
Whichever you choose, the local engines run first and the analyzing engines only see the documents they could not handle, so you are not paying a cloud provider to read pages that Tesseract already read correctly.
New License Options
Concurrent, subscription, and other flexible licensing options are all available. We are proud to still offer software you can truly own, and we are happy to work out an arrangement that fits how you actually use it.
Every Application Now Tells You What It Did
Not glamorous, and the change our support team is most pleased about. Every application in the suite now writes one log, in one format, with one detail setting, and a job running as a service also writes its errors to the Windows event log where your monitoring tools can see them. When something goes wrong at 2am, there is now one file that explains it.
The Viewer You Actually Wanted
The web, image and text panes now stack, and SimpleView shows whichever one fits the file you just opened. Switch PDFs over to the web viewer and you get selectable, highlightable text. Press the OCR button and the file is recognized on the spot with the text in the pane beside it, using FineReader automatically if you are licensed for it. Office documents hand over their text without being asked, but only when the text pane is actually in front, so nothing is recognized that nobody is going to read.
