License Activation Instructions for Simple Software Products

Simple Software products are activated online: you enter your license key in SimpleIndex and it is verified with our license server. A computer without internet access can be activated offline instead (see Option B below).

Your license key

Order SimpleIndex from our online store or one of our Authorized Dealers. Your license key is in the order confirmation email, in the Your license keys table, and under My Account > Orders. It looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX and works as soon as you receive it.

  • Several computers, one key. When you buy more than one license of the same product, you receive one key set up for all of them, not a key per computer. Enter the same key on each computer. The Computers column of the table shows how many computers each key covers.
  • Add-ons for some of the computers. If you bought an add-on (ISIS scanning, for example) for fewer computers than you licensed, the computers are split across two keys: one for the computers with the add-on and one for the rest. Each line of the table says what the key is for; use the matching key on each computer.
  • Add-ons for a license you already own. If you entered your existing license key at checkout, the add-on was added to that key and there is no new key to enter. See Option C below.

Keep your key somewhere safe: you need it to reinstall SimpleIndex or to move it to another computer. You can see what any key includes on the License Check page, and in SimpleIndex itself under Help > Activate/Transfer License, where the key is in the drop-down under Enter Serial Number to Activate.

Every SimpleIndex license includes the first year of support and upgrades. After that, support continues with annual maintenance; see the Annual Maintenance & Upgrade Policy and the Simple Software Maintenance Agreement.

Activation Instructions

Option A – Activate SimpleIndex

  1. Download SimpleIndex from the Download page and install it. If SimpleIndex is already installed, for example as a trial, there is nothing to reinstall: the trial becomes the licensed version when you activate it.
  2. Click the SimpleIndex icon on your desktop or in the Windows Start menu.
    SimpleIndex icon
  3. The Activation window opens. If it does not (SimpleIndex is already activated, or you are adding a second license), open the Help menu and choose Activate/Transfer License.
  4. Enter your license key in the Enter Serial Number to Activate field.
    SimpleIndex Activation window
  5. Click Activate.
    Activate button
  6. You will see a confirmation, and your license type is shown next to License Type: in the Activation window.

For several computers on one key, repeat these steps on each computer with the same key.

Option B – No Internet Connection (Offline Activation)

  1. Open SimpleIndex to the Activation window
  2. Enter the license key from your order
  3. Click the Offline Activation button
  4. Click No to indicate that you have not received a license file
  5. Save the license request file (.req) to a location of your choice
  6. Email the license request file to support@simpleindex.com
  7. We will generate a license file (.lic) and send it back to you
  8. Repeat steps 1-3
  9. Click Yes to indicate that you have received a license file
  10. Select and open the license file (.lic)
  11. Confirm activation success
  12. The license now shows in the Activation window when you reopen SimpleIndex and choose Help > Activate/Transfer License

Option C – An Add-on Added to a License You Already Use

When an add-on is added to a key that is already activated, there is nothing new to enter. On each computer that uses that key:

  1. Open SimpleIndex.
  2. Open the Help menu and choose Activate/Transfer License. This makes SimpleIndex check your license with our server right away.
  3. Close the window and restart SimpleIndex. The add-on is now available.

Some earlier releases of version 12 do not check right away and pick the add-on up within a few days instead; installing the latest release makes it immediate. If the add-on still does not appear, check the key on the License Check page: if the add-on is listed there, contact support and we will help. If you received the add-on as a separate key but meant it for a license you already own, contact us and we will move it onto that license.

Moving SimpleIndex to Another Computer

Use Transfer in the same window to release the license from the old computer, then activate it on the new one. See How do I transfer an existing SimpleIndex license to another computer?

If activation does not work, call our support staff at +1 (865) 637-8986 option 2, or email support@simpleindex.com.
