Point SimpleIndex at a model you host yourself instead of a cloud provider. No API key, no per-page bill from a provider, since there's no external API involved in this option at all.
SimpleIndex reads every document through two groups of engines, in order. The first group, SimpleOCR, Tesseract, and ABBYY FineReader, runs on everything and handles most pages on its own. Only the cases that group can't read move on to the second group: AWS Textract, a large language model of your choice, or a model you host yourself.
Your own local model is that second group's third option, alongside the two cloud engines, and reads values, table line items, and checkmark fields the same way they do. Point the job settings at it and it takes over exactly the cases the first group couldn't handle, nothing more. The OCR Registration Field controls which pages actually reach it, so you're not routing every document through it, only the exceptions.
No API key to manage and no per-page bill from a cloud provider, since there's no external API in this option at all. Whatever the job reads stays on the hardware you point it at.
It has been tested working on a server with 8 GB of memory.
Yes. It runs in an air-gapped system with no internet connection at all.
Same job setting, different choice. AWS Textract bills per page and the major LLM providers bill by the tokens used, and both need an internet connection to reach them. Your own local model has no per-page cost and no external API to reach, since it isn't a cloud service at all. Whichever one you pick, the OCR Registration Field controls which pages actually get sent to it, so nothing routes through it unless you've told it to.
