Support and updates are included for the first year with both editions. After that they renew at $100 a year for Standard and $300 a year for Professional. Renewing is optional, your license is perpetual either way, and here is what it actually buys you.

Which edition has what

Two editions, plus one add-on. The badges on each card show which editions include the capability. Server is not a third edition - it is an add-on to either one that lets a job run unattended on files arriving in a watched folder, and only a couple of capabilities depend on it.

Added to either edition rather than replacing it. What it buys is unattended operation.

Professional activates the full suite - SimpleQB, SimpleExport, SimpleCoversheet and SimpleView - with no separate serial numbers to manage. Each is still sold on its own, because plenty of sites want Standard plus one app and nothing more. If you are not sure which combination fits, describe your setup and we will tell you rather than sell you the larger one.

What's the difference between Workstation, Concurrent, and Subscription licensing?

Workstation is a perpetual license tied to one machine. Concurrent lets a pool of users share a smaller number of floating licenses across shifts or desks. Subscription is the same software billed per year instead of once, with maintenance bundled in for as long as it's active. All three activate the same edition - the difference is only how the license is paid for and shared.

What does the Server add-on do, and can I add it later?

Server adds unattended processing: SimpleIndex runs as a Windows service, watches a folder, and processes whatever lands there with no one logged in. It's an add-on to either edition, not a separate tier, and it can be added to an existing installation whenever unattended processing becomes worth it.

What happens when the license expires?

Workstation and Concurrent licenses are perpetual - the installed version keeps running indefinitely whether or not maintenance is renewed. Subscription licensing is billed annually.

We only need one of the suite apps - do we have to buy the whole thing?

No. SimpleQB, SimpleExport, SimpleCoversheet, and SimpleView are each still sold on their own, so a Standard install that only needs QuickBooks integration doesn't have to move up to Professional. Professional just activates all four automatically, with no separate serial numbers to track.
