Description
What the Server Processing Add-on does
The Server Processing Add-on runs SimpleIndex as a Windows service. It watches a folder and processes whatever lands in it, or runs a job on a schedule, with nobody logged in and nobody at the machine.
It changes who starts the job. Everything else about the job stays as you built it: the same recognition, the same index fields, the same naming rules, the same destination. A job that works when you click Go works the same way when the service starts it at two in the morning.
It attaches to either edition
Standard or Professional, both. This is an add-on, not a tier above Professional, and it is not a separate edition of SimpleIndex. A Standard license plus this add-on runs barcode-driven jobs overnight perfectly well, and that is a common and sensible configuration.
It can be added to an installation you already have, at any time. If you are buying both together, a Server license costs the same as an edition plus this add-on, first year of support included either way.
How a job gets started without you
- Watch a folder. Files arriving from a network scanner, an MFP, an email drop or another system are picked up and processed as they land.
- Run on a schedule. Hourly, daily, weekdays only, weekly or monthly.
- Run on an interval. Every so many minutes, continuously.
- Run several jobs. The service handles a list of them, each with its own folder or schedule.
ABBYY FineReader OCR Server
This license includes ABBYY FineReader OCR Server, which is the server-licensed build of the FineReader engine. That is what performs recognition on unattended runs.
Processing volume
The license covers up to 1 million pages per year. Additional volume is bought in the same units, each add-on bringing another million pages a year, so a site processing three million buys three.
This allowance applies to unattended processing. Work done by a person sitting at a workstation is not metered.
What it does not do
- It does not change recognition accuracy on the desktop. Which engine reads the page is decided by your edition and your job settings, not by this add-on.
- It is not a substitute for Professional. If your problem is that Tesseract is misreading an invoice number, unattended processing will misread it just as reliably, and faster. That is an edition question.
- It does not scan. A service with nobody present cannot feed paper into a scanner. Documents have to arrive as files.
- It is Windows only. There is no macOS or Linux build.
