Description
What this license is
SimpleIndex OCR, plus unattended server processing for up to 1 million pages per year, plus ABBYY FineReader OCR Server. It is the two products bought together as one license: an OCR workstation license and the Server Processing Add-on.
If you already own a SimpleIndex license, you want the Server Processing Add-on on its own instead.
What the OCR edition does
SimpleIndex takes documents in from a scanner or from files on disk, reads index values off them, then names, separates and files them with those values attached. Barcodes, using the DTK and Atalasoft engines. Zone OCR, where you draw a box and the text inside it becomes a field. Full-page OCR. Or text parsed straight out of a PDF or an Office file, which needs no recognition at all because the text is already there.
The OCR edition is Standard with ABBYY FineReader added at the workstation. Zone OCR is only as good as the engine reading the zone: Standard’s Tesseract and SimpleOCR make a document searchable, and FineReader reads printed values accurately enough to file by or post to a database.
What the server half adds
SimpleIndex runs as a Windows service. It watches a folder and processes what arrives, or works to a schedule, hourly through monthly, or on a short repeating interval. Nobody has to be logged in. Several jobs can run under the service at once, each with its own folder or schedule.
This license includes ABBYY FineReader OCR Server, the server-licensed build of the FineReader engine, which performs recognition on unattended runs.
Running on cloud infrastructure
If you are deploying to AWS, Azure or another hosted platform, check the OCR engine before you build the job. The ABBYY FineReader client engine is not supported on cloud-hosted systems. Use FineReader OCR Server or Tesseract there instead.
Processing volume
Unattended processing is covered up to 1 million pages per year. More volume is bought in the same units, another million pages a year each. Work done by a person at the workstation is not metered.

What this license does not do
- It is not a document management system. No check-in and check-out, no retention policy, no permissions model, no approval routing. It feeds the system that does those things.
- It does not include Professional’s engines. The cloud recognition services, the language models, dynamic OCR, mark recognition and handprint recognition are Professional. So are ISIS scanning, SharePoint, email and QuickBooks.
- Unattended means files, not paper. A service with nobody present cannot feed a scanner. Documents have to arrive as files.
- It is not zero configuration. A barcode job can be running the same afternoon. Anything reading text off varied layouts takes a few sessions to tune.
- Poor originals stay poor. Recognition accuracy is bounded by scan quality, and an unattended run has nobody there to notice.
- It is Windows only. There is no macOS or Linux build.
Support and updates
The first year of support and updates is included in the price. After that it renews at $280 a year. Every support call reaches our own team in Knoxville.

An evaluation license covers unattended processing, so the service can be tested against your own folders before you commit. Download the trial.
