TIFF stands for Tag Image File Format and was the most commonly used format for storing multi-page scanned document images before the widespread adoption of PDF.

Unlike other image formats like JPEG, GIF or PNG that only store a single image, TIFF has the ability to save multiple images in a single file and treat them as pages.

TIFF also allows a variety of compression settings to provide optimal file size reduction for black & white, grayscale and full color images.

Processing TIFF files is significantly faster than processing PDF files, so you can optimize scanning and processing workflows by performing OCR, OMR, Bar Code Recognition and Image Clean-Up on TIFF images before converting to PDF on the last step.
