SimpleCoversheet
Introduction[edit | edit source]
SimpleCoversheet is a tool to assist in the automation of indexing scanned documents. Document separator sheets are commonly used in scanning applications to indicate the start of a new document and provide metadata to the scanning application for indexing.
SimpleCoversheet is a tool to help create these coversheets on-demand, along with several related functions:
- Print single coversheets from your desktop by filling out a simple form
- Print multiple coversheets for scanning many documents at once
- Connect to a database to retrieve or validate metadata
- Index and rename existing files based on selected metadata
- Print barcodes on labels that can be applied to existing documents
- Create common Patch Codes and static document separator sheets
- Save barcode templates as PDF for printing later
Advantages of SimpleCoversheet[edit | edit source]
Using coversheets, and SimpleCoversheet specifically, has many advantages:
- Fully automate the indexing for your scanned documents using barcode technology with accuracy of 99.9% or more
- Free mode and low-cost site licensing makes it easy to distribute to large user groups
- Incredibly easy interface for the operator
- Use with digital copiers and MFPs to automatically file scanned documents from anywhere in the office
- Centralized scanning operations can receive documents with the index values pre-coded by the people that created them
- Indexing mode lets you file electronic documents without printing
- Validate user input and provide selection lists from a database or file
- Perform database merges to automatically print many barcode coversheets at once, or many barcodes on a single sheet
- Use the command line interface to automatically print coversheets from a custom application
Barcode Support[edit | edit source]
By default, SimpleCoversheet uses a Code 128 barcode. However, there are also many other barcode types available. Code 128 is used by default because it supports a large character set, including special characters. It is also supported by most document scanning applications.
Sometimes there is more information than will fit easily on a 1D barcode. If you have a large amount of information that you want to put into barcode format, and have limited space available, we suggest using a 2D barcode such as PDF417 or DataMatrix.
