TWAIN is not actually an acronym and does not mean "Technology Without an Interesting Name" even though many people will tell you that.

TWAIN is a driver standard for connecting scanners to PCs.

Virtually all scanners support TWAIN, while ISIS drivers are usually only come with scanners with an automatic document feeder.
